goals
Since I could first draw, I wanted to be an artist. I loved to paint, sketch, color, doodle, cut, glue, build and destroy. Some of the results my folks would hang proudly and dutifully on the fridge. The rest, I'm pretty sure, frightened them... or too many guests. If this collection represents a medium between the two, I'd be thrilled. At the end of the day, I want to make an impact people remember, be it for myself, or for a client looking for something powerful, edgy, and sure to raise eyebrows. contacting/availablity I'm always on the lookout for networking opportunities, whether it be for work or for creativity. I like to share thoughts, opinons, and techniques; anyone can feel free to contact me at the email address in the footer, provided you want to talk art or business. "are these works available?" Most of the work here is personal art. Although I'd prefer to delevop new illustrations for a client's needs, one can contact me for the availabilty of specific rights (one-time, first, exclusive, etc) and publishing information for individual works on this site. link sharing I won't blindly share links. If I dig you, your art, or your site, I'll definately add you to my links page. Reciprocity is always warmly welcomed. photography I love photography. I find it much harder more challenging than illustration because you have to express yourself with a starting point. I enjoy everything from portraiture to nature to heavily-manipulated abstract photo art. |

the art
The illustration work begins as pencil sketches. The are scanned at high resolutions and then further edited digitally for layout and composition. I use Abode Photoshop to digitally paint over them with non-destructive methods. Every object is isolated and every color has a dedicated layer. I like the idea that the works are dynamic, fluid... alive... throughout the creation process, and the end results are often far different then what I first imagined. After a final draft is complete, I treat them as I would a photograph and digitally post-process them, adjusting overall color, contrast, and saturation to fit the intended mood. I'm not sure what label I'd feel comfortable with as an artist. While a lot of my work leans towards some of the themes dealt with in Pop Surrealism, most of my influences are from different schools and eras. "weren't you some sort of musician?" Yeah, still doing that! I seem blessed or cursed with freelance careers, I think. I've been a professional musician all my adult life and have no plans to ever cease the passion I have for performance and composition, although I wouldn't mind focusing more on my illustration and photography. |
